Check out our featured products. Have you heard of the potential benefits of "magnificent" mushrooms?
Adaptogenic mushrooms have the potential to be very beneficial to you and your health. So then, what are these things we call "adaptogens"? simply put, they are a substance which are naturally found, that help your body handle and manage the "not so good" stress. So, they have the potential to benefit you in more ways than just one. Examples of different substances that are typically and commonly considered adaptogens would be certain herbs, roots, shrubs, flowers and mushrooms. they generally work more on a total system of functions, rather than focusing on one specific thing. At Canton Fitness Center, we carry Hawk Meadow Farms mushroom tinctures. They have great quality mushroom tinctures and source everything from their local farm, in Trumansburg, NY. Below you will find more information on the products themselves, as well as more information from Hawk Meadow Farms.
Our Mushroom Tinctures Although there are general guidelines for making double extraction mushroom tinctures, the process can vary depending on the individual maker. As growers of woodland mushrooms, we aim to grow as many of our mushrooms outdoors on natural logs, to simulate their natural environment. Under such conditions, mushrooms have to undergo some degree of struggle as they compete for substrate, experience weather changes, etc. This struggle results in mushrooms with a much fuller array of bioactive compounds when compared to indoor grown mushrooms. Some of our native species that we do not grow, we sustainably source from the wild, like our native Reishi (Ganoderma tsugae), in order to ensure the same level of medicinal quality. Strong mushrooms are a vital start to potent tincture making! We use 100% fruiting bodies in our tinctures, as well as organic alcohol. There will be some solid material, especially the polysaccharides, that will start to come out into solution during the process. This is not only a natural occurrence, but is a sign of quality in tinctures. The polysaccharides also to tend to flocculate (coalesce). Vigorous shaking will encourage these aggregate solids to disperse. These solids can be removed by fine filtration, but our philosophy has been to leave them in the tincture since they are representing many bioactive constituents. In comparison, herbal tinctures are generally clearer as their bioactive compounds go into solution more easily.
How are Mushroom Tinctures Different? When using mushrooms to make tincture there is another step involved to make the best tincture possible. In Traditional Chinese Medicine there are many mushrooms such as Reishi, Shiitake, Maitake, and Lion's Mane that are recognized for their bioactivity. In Asian cultures, these mushrooms are prepared as long simmered teas or soups. This step is vital in drawing out the many beneficial compounds that exist in mushrooms that are water soluble, like long chain polysaccharides which are notable for their bioactivity in immunomodulation. Additionally, mushrooms have an indigestible cell wall composed of chitinous material that is broken down in these simmers. This process is known as a decoction, and results in a viscous, highly saturated liquid full of medicinal compounds. When the water based decoction is added to the alcohol tincture, it is called a "double extraction", which more completely contains the full range of medicinal compounds that exist in mushrooms.

5 Mushroom Mix Tincture
A blend of Shiitake, Reishi, Maitake, Turkey Tail and Chaga mushroom tincture. All of our mushroom tinctures are made using 100%fruiting bodies. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbs and other constituents are rarely given in isolation, but rather as blends to take advantage of synergistic effects.
Chaga Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) Known for its full spectrum of immune-stimulating phytochemicals. It is rich in beta glucans which have immuno-modulating activities and readily promotes white blood cell activation. Chaga has shown promise as an anticancer agent as well as an antiviral agent. Alcohol extracts of Chaga have shown the capability to decrease the inflammation response in the body.
Turkey Tail Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) is active in protecting and enhancing the immune system. Possesses anti-tumor, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. Helps to alleviate chemotherapy symptoms, and aids in pain relief. Increases energy and stamina.
Maitake Maitake (Grifola frondosa) mushroom has been used in traditional Eastern medicine as an immune system enhancer. Researchers have also indicated that Maitake has the ability to regulate blood pressure, glucose, insulin and both serum and liver lipids, such as cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids. May also be useful for weight loss.
Reishi Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum… aka Lingzhi) Possesses anti-tumor, anti-cancer, immunomodulatory and immunotherapeutic qualities. It has also been found to inhibit platelet aggregation, and to lower blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.
Shiitake Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is notable for its dramatic effects on lowering blood serum cholesterol. It also stimulates the immune system possessing anticancer, antitumor, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Recent research shows promise in having an inhibitory effect on cell destroying effects of the HIV virus.
Lion’s Mane Lion’s Mane(Hericium) has immunostimulating effects but has also shown promise in regeneration of damaged nerve cells, stimulation of nerve growth factor (NGF) in the central and peripheral nervous system, repair of neurological degradation from senility, improves cognitive function, memory loss and reflexes. Lion's Mane (Hericium) is the ultimate brain booster. Studies have shown its ability to increase focus, sharpen reflexes, strengthen memory, and improve overall cognitive functions. It also has potential to regenerate damaged nerve cells, and stimulate the nerve growth factor (NGF) in the central and peripheral nervous system. Lion's Mane also contains beta-glucans for increased immunity and overall wellness. All of our mushroom tinctures are made using 100% fruiting bodies. Cordyceps (cordyceps millitaris) have been used as a performance and energy enhancer due to the presence of adenosine, which naturally aids the production of ATP in our bodies. Another bioactive compound, cordycepin, helps reduce inflammation, boost immunity, and has been studied in its ability to fight cancer. They are also known to improve liver and lung function. All of our mushroom tinctures are made using 100% fruiting bodies.
